Hopkins, UAB Beat No. 12 BYU 31-28 in Freedom Bowl

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — Dylan Hopkins broke the Freedom Bowl record for finishing rate, associating on 19 of 23 passes for 189 yards and three scores in UAB’s 31-28 triumph over No. 12 BYU on Saturday.

With UAB (9-4) confronting fourth-and-7 with six minutes remaining, mentor Bill Clark passed on a field-objective endeavor, and Hopkins tossed a 14-yard, go on score pass to Trea Shropshire, the main player from Louisiana on one or the other list.

BYU (10-3) had all the earmarks of being in great situation to at minimum tie it, yet Samson Nacua mishandled in the wake of making a catch inside UAB’s 25 with 3:36 excess.

BYU and running back Tyler Allgeier retaliated from a 14-point shortfall, tying it twice and ultimately starting to lead the pack in the final quarter. Allgeier ran for 192 yards and had three scores.

Hopkins’ score pass to Gerrit Sovereign, and McBride’s 64-yard scoring run gave UAB a mid two-score lead.

Quarterback Baylor Romney — beginning instead of harmed Jaren Corridor — set the Cougars back in the game with a solid beginning to the subsequent quarter. Allgeier had a 1-yard scoring run, and Nacua had a 2-yarder to tie it.

UAB recovered the lead with Hopkins’ 23-yard pass to Ruler before halftime.

Allgeier ripped off a 62-yard score hurry to tie it again 1:17 into the second from last quarter. His 1-yard run put the Cougars up 28-24 on the second play of the final quarter.

UAB: With two scores Saturday, Ruler moved to fifth on UAB’s vocation score gatherings list (15) and fourth on the single-season list (10). The Overcoats held a 14-0 drove when linebacker Tyler Taylor was launched out for focusing on late in the main quarter.
